This is especially helpful in large puzzles, and in puzzles where there are several grids of cells a line can extend through cells in multiple grids. You can click on the line header to draw a line through all the cells within it. These same basic rules apply to empty hexes with such notations, as well. Finally, an integer with braces, such as, tells us that there are three hexes in the line, and that they will all be sequential within the line, without any empty hexes between them. The conditions on the grid will help determine the sequence. That means you can have two blue hexes together, an empty cell, and a third blue hex or, for example, you could have a blue hex, an empty cell, another blue hex, another empty cell, and a third blue hex. That is, there will be at least one empty hex to split them up. A negative integer, such as -3-, tells us that there are 3 blue cells in the line, but that they will not all be connected. A normal integer, such as '3', simply determines how many cells along that line are colored blue. You will also work with entire lines of cells, which are governed by a number. Instead, you must use other conditions of the puzzle to solve their surrounding cells. As in Hexcells Plus, you will also encounter empty cells with a '?' inside there is no way to determine how many of their surrounding hexes must be colored. The numbers within many of the empty (black) cells determine the number of its surrounding cells which should be colored. The idea is to use a series of restrictions on the game board to determine which of the orange hexes should be colored blue, and which should be eliminated. That said, let's at least go through a brief primer. For example, I may not point out every single time there's a '1' in the center of a ring of five empty hexes and only one orange hex to mark if you've played enough Hexcells puzzles, you should be able to see things like this with reasonable consistency. The greatest attention will be spent exploring the logic behind the most complicated puzzles, while still providing a complete walkthrough of the entire game. What this means is that there will be a little less hand-holding than in the two previous guides.

Every cell has only two possibilities, so you can of course cheese the game by just blindly guessing until you've marked everything, but that really goes against the spirit of the game.As Hexcells Infinite builds upon the skills you have (hopefully) developed through the last two games, so will this guide assume you have at least some familiarity with Hexcells concepts and gameplay.

PS: my personal recommendation, go out of your way to make no guesses (and therefore avoid mistakes). A big strength about this game is that you're going to find yourself learning commonly applicable rules/patterns and commiting them to memory as the puzzles get more complex. 'This cell here must be blue, because if it is black, then this other cell would end up having 4 neighbors when it should only have 3 ergo, this cell must be blue.' The balance is really fair they start out easy and work you up. I was legitimately reciting the proof by contradiction methodology I learned in school in my head to logic out these puzzles. I felt so captivated and content playing. There are also other ways you are given hints, like a count of how many unfound blue cells there are, numbered lines indicating how many of the cells in there are blue, indicators of sequential/non-sequential cell connection, and so on. Every black cell has a number on it indicating how many of its neighbors are blue. Every hexagonal cell on the screen is either blue or black but at first, most of them will be orange indicating you have to figure out whether its blue or black and mark it accordingly. They can be described as 'Minesweeper with zero luck or guessing necessary'. I just beat all 108 levels and I love the games to bits. Each one contains 36 puzzles and you can get user-generated ones in Infinite.
